Faculty Awards
Faculty of Science Summer Research Awards
These scholarships support undergraduate students wanting to do research with a Faculty member. They include Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) as well as Endowed awards administered by the Faculty of Science. The scholarships are valued at approximately $9,000 (inc. supervisor contribution).
Student Eligibility:
- Have completed (by May) at least 52 credit hours of university courses
- Have no more than one PASS grade for credit-bearing courses during Winter and Summer 2020, and no more than one PASS grade during Fall/Winter 2020-21
- Note that you will be asked to submit transcripts for all post-secondary institutions that you have attended.
The Faculty of Science deadline for applying is January 24, 2025.

Imhotep’s Legacy Academy Summer Student Research Scholarship for African Canadians
Summer Student Research Scholarship for African Canadians pursuing an undergraduate degree in Science
ILA has partnered with аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±â€™s Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Health, and Faculty of Science to support university students as they conduct specialized research in their chosen field under the guidance of a аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± faculty member whose primary appointment is within these departments.
These scholarships are valued at $6,500 each, are tenable at аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± and are paid-out over the summer months (May – August).
Academic performance, research ability, and leadership/community involvement will all be considerations for applications.
Student Eligibility
- Enrollment at аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½± and completion of at least two years of an undergraduate program
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required at the time of application
- Be a member of the African Nova Scotian community or African Canadian
- Demonstrate a serious interest in a future career in medicine or medical research
- Quality of the student (research experience, skills, fit to the project)
- Contributions of the student to the project
- Preference is given to applicants who have participated in, or who intend to participate in Imhotep’s Legacy Academy

Fall Awards
Hugh P. Bell Scholarship
Awarded to the honours students with the highest GPAs in their Biology and/or Marine Biology classes.
Basis of selection: Awarded to the honours students in the BIOL/MARI 4901/2 honours class with the highest GPA in their Biology and/or Marine Biology classes. Determined by the Undergraduate Awards Committee each fall. ()
Developmental Biology Prize
Awarded to the student with the highest total grade in BIOL 3050: Developmental Biology each fall.
